Can I give my child a sedative, like Benadryl, to help him calm during the flight?
Yes, you may administer a sedative provided your child’s pediatrician approves it. Diphenhydramine, or Benadryl, is not always the right choice. It depends on what your pediatrician thinks is best for your child. Do not resort to this option unless your child is obviously headed toward – or already in – a panic attack. Distraction such as coloring books, picture books, music and videos are still the best options to keep your child from being restless or becoming unmanageable.
